Ubuntu / Mint OpenVPN on Network Manager

Prefer a graphical setup? Add SlickVPN through the Network Manager GUI so you can connect from the system tray.

Step-by-step

Install the plugin

Run: sudo apt install network-manager-openvpn-gnome, then log out and back in so the option appears.

Add a VPN

Open Settings → Network, click the + beside VPN, and choose “Import from file…”.

Import the profile

Select your SlickVPN .ovpn file. Network Manager fills in the gateway, certificates and cipher automatically.

Add credentials and connect

Enter your VPN username and password, save, then toggle the VPN on from the network menu.
